Cryptid Iceberg 25
Secret Grasp is a podcast all about the mysterious and difficult to explain aspects of life.
We cover topics relating to the paranormal, occult, conspiracy theories, urban legends, cryptids, and other strange occurrences.
You can find us on all of the major podcasting apps, and we’ve got a video version of the podcast available on Youtube.
In this episode we’re going to cover the Cryptid Iceberg.
This is based on a chart created by Reddit user Jimboseth. I’ll put a link to the original chart in the description of this episode.
This episode is going to be a 2-parter and I’m guessing each episode might be around an hour long each.
I was going to try and get a picture up for each cryptid as I discuss it, but it’s just going to be too much work. For this episode alone I’m going to cover nearly 150 different cryptids, and the same in the Part 2 episode.
So let’s jump right into this
—————————– Level 1 ———————————————-
Bigfoot – a large, hairy, ape-like creature resembling a yeti, supposedly found in northwestern America.
Jackalope – a mythical animal depicted as a hare or rabbit with horns, said to exist in parts of North America. “some people think jackalopes are creations of taxidermists”
Greys – Grey aliens, also referred to as Zeta Reticulans, Roswell Greys, or Grays, are purported extraterrestrial beings. They are frequent subjects of close encounters and alien abduction claims.
Globster – A globster or blob is an unidentified organic mass that washes up on the shoreline of an ocean or other body of water. A globster is distinguished from a normal beached carcass by being hard to identify, at least by initial untrained observers, and by creating controversy as to its identity.
Reptilians – Reptilians – also called reptoids,[1] lizard people,[2] archons,[3] reptiloids, saurians, or draconians[4][5][6] – are supposed reptilian humanoids, which play a prominent role in fantasy, science fiction, ufology, and conspiracy theories.[7][8] The idea of reptilians was popularised by David Icke, a conspiracy theorist who claims shapeshifting reptilian aliens control Earth by taking on human form and gaining political power to manipulate human societies. Icke has stated on multiple occasions that many world leaders are, or are possessed by, so-called reptilians.
Fresno Nightcrawler – The Fresno nightcrawler, also known as the Fresno alien, is a cryptid that has made two appearances so far, one in Fresno, California and the other in Yosemite National Park, also in California. In both sightings, it’s only seen in video footage. However, a man in Poland has also claimed to have seen the creature.
Fresno nightcrawlers appear to be relatively short creatures (approx. 1.5 meters) with most of their height being made up of their legs as they possess an extremely small upper body. It is hard to find details in the upper body of the cryptid due to the poor quality of the footage. It is an extremely thin, white humanoid with no discernible arms. A larger specimen appears to have webbing connected from each knee to the torso. The cryptids appear to have very short, thin, and stilt-like feet. It is hard to judge the exact characteristics of the cryptids in the footage due to poor quality. The Carmel Area Creature is tall and gray, with presumably no arms and long, muscular legs. It is bipedal and walks in an odd manner with its backward bending knees. It resembles the Fresno Nightcrawler.
(Basically looks like a walking pair of pants)

Hellhounds occur in mythologies around the world, with the best known examples being Cerberus from Greek mythology, Garmr from Norse mythology, the black dogs of English folklore, and the fairy hounds of Celtic mythology. Physical characteristics vary, but they are commonly black, anomalously overgrown, supernaturally strong, and often have red eyes or accompanied by flames.
Wendigo – (in the folklore of some northern Algonquian peoples) a cannibalistic giant; a person who has been transformed into a monster by the consumption of human flesh.
Baba Yaga – In Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga, also spelled Baba Jaga is a supernatural being who appears as a deformed and/or ferocious-looking woman. In Russian fairy tales Baba Yaga flies around in a mortar, wields a pestle, and dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs. Baba Yaga may help or hinder those that encounter or seek her out and may play a maternal role; she has associations with forest wildlife. According to Vladimir Propp’s folktale morphology, Baba Yaga commonly appears as either a donor or a villain, or may be altogether ambiguous.

It had poisonous breath and blood so virulent that even its scent was deadly.[4] The Hydra possessed many heads, the exact number of which varies according to the source. Later versions of the Hydra story add a regeneration feature to the monster: for every head chopped off, the Hydra would regrow two heads.[5] Heracles required the assistance of his nephew Iolaus to cut off all of the monster’s heads and burn the neck using a sword and fire.[6]
Dwarves – (in folklore or fantasy literature) a member of a mythical race of short, stocky humanlike creatures who are generally skilled in mining and metalworking.
Chupacabra – an animal said to exist in parts of Latin America, where it supposedly attacks animals, especially goats. Name means goat sucker. Physical descriptions of the creature vary, with some describing it as more dog-like (particularly in Southwestern United States) while most others describe it as reptilian and alien-like (in Puerto Rico and Latin America). Some report it as being a heavy creature the size of a small bear, with a row of spines reaching from the neck to the base of the tail.

The only safe way to escape an umibōzu is to give it a bottomless barrel and sail away while it is confused.
Gargoyle – The gargoyle is a fantasy and horror monster inspired by the gargoyle architectural element. While they were believed in mythology to frighten away evil spirits, the idea of such statues physically coming to life is a more recent notion. Like golems, they are usually made of magically animated or transformed stone, but have animal or chimera traits and are often guardians of a place such as a cathedral or castle.[1] They can also be depicted as vessels for demonic possession or as a living species resembling statues.[2]
Jersey Devil – In the Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia folklore of the United States, the Jersey Devil is a legendary creature said to inhabit the forest of Pine Barrens in South Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations

It is said to be a surviving species of theropod dinosaur, such as a Tyrannosaurus rex or Giganotosaurus; as the cryptid’s namesake; although quite a low possibility; if its indeed an alive African theropod it’s likely a species of spinosaurid; abelisaurid; allosaurid; or a carcharodontosaurid; as there have been no known species of tyrannosaurid ever depicted and recorded in Africa.
It has also been depicted as a species of gigantic monitor lizard as well as a species of bipedal terrestrial crocodile; which are all much more logical speculations.
Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp – In the folklore of Lee County, South Carolina, the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp is an entity said to inhabit the swampland of the region. First mentioned in the late 1980s, the purported sightings and damage attributed to the creature yielded a significant amount of newspaper, radio and television publicity.

Ningen – In modern Japanese folklore, the Ningen (ニンゲン) is an aquatic humanoid whale-like creature reported to inhabit the subantarctic oceans. The homophone in Japanese 人間 (nin-gen) means “human”. Owlman – In Cornish Folklore, the Owlman (Cornish: Cowanden), sometimes referred to as the Cornish Owlman, or the Owlman of Mawnan, is an owl-like creature said to have been seen in 1976 in the village of Mawnan, Cornwall, UK.[1][2] The Owlman is sometimes compared to Mothman; however, a Eurasian eagle-owl is likely the source of the legend.[3][4]

In addition, Black Stick Men lack any facial features whether it be eyes, a nose, or a mouth. Despite the name, it is speculated that this species is entirely genderless. Black Stick Men are said to vary in height some ranging from that of a normal human to several feet in length.
