Biblically Accurate Angels 28
Secret Grasp is a podcast all about the mysterious and difficult to explain aspects of life.
We cover topics relating to the paranormal, occult, conspiracy theories, urban legends, cryptids, and other strange occurrences.
You can find us on all of the major podcasting apps, and we’ve got a video version of the podcast available on Youtube.
Today we’re going to talk about angels.
You probably have an idea of what angels look like. Super clean and healthy looking people in flowing white robes with big elegant wings coming out of their back. A halo around their head. Probably sitting on a cloud somewhere.
That’s not actually what angels are described as in the bible though. They’re rather horrific looking monstrosities.
We first learn about angels in the Old Testament of the Bible. The word angel roughly translates from Greek as “messenger”.
In the Bible, angels appear to people in dreams most often. Although sometimes during the day as well. They pass on messages to people on behalf of God, or sometimes do his work here on Earth.
In the book of Exodus, an angel kills all the first-born sons of the Egyptians.
In 2nd Samuel, another angel kills 70,000 israelites.
Later in 2nd Kings, an angel kills 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night.
So needless to say, angels are pretty dangerous and powerful creatures. Angels are not nice or gentle/peaceful creatures LOL They will mess you up. There’s a reason why every time people encounter angels in the Bible, they fall to the ground pooping themselves in fear, and why angels always say “Be not afraid” when they show up.
It’s also worth noting that angels aren’t human, they are about as far from humans as possible. Your dead grandma can never become an angel.
Hierarchy of Angels
Ophanim – A pair of interlocking wheels with eyes all the way around. Maybe UFOs. Or Ezekiel ingesting hallucinagens. Act as transportation for cherubim. Might be so big that they actually disappear below the horizon when they appear in the sky.
Seraphim – 6 wings. 2 for flying, 2 for covering their face, 2 for covering their feet. Usually depicted as burning.
Malakh – Typical human-looking angels like Gabriel, Ralphael, etc. Guardian angels.
Cherubim – When most people hear cherubim they think of Cupid from Valentine’s day, a chubby little baby. But Cherubim are actually human-animal hybrids. They’re the beings that guarded the garden of eden.
They have 4 faces and 4 wings. Human, lion, ox, and eagle. Feet of an ox.
Might be related to the Egyptian sphinx.
Cherubim are also featured on the Ark of the Covenant.
Virtues – Give stuff out on Earth. Called the shining ones, don’t necessarily have a physical appearance.
Different choirs of angels
First choirs – These only exist in heaven and do stuff relating to heaven. Seraphim. Sit in heaven transporting and praising God.
Second choirs – These exist in heaven but affect stuff on Earth
Third choirs – These come to earth and interact with humans. Cherubim.
Fallen angels – Lucifer, Satan, Baal, Belzebuub. Most fallen angels or demons are likely cherubim. But 1/3 of angels fell from heaven so might be some from every group.
Archangels – Only Michael is ever identified as an archangel. Some people think there are 7 though.
